I think that I see (finding a replacement) as one of opportunity. I told the staff that we have a lot of things in place, a lot of initiatives under way.

I didn't know what to anticipate. We don't have a discussion with the owners until (today), so it's really hard to say.

I've spoken to many owners already, and I think there's a really strong consensus that what is needed is a pretty effective leader and someone who can be around for a good, long period of time. Whatever differences people have on specific issues will be pretty well submerged as they try to find the right type of talent to lead thee organization.

The competition committee did a terrific job and that showed with the endorsements that they had on their recommendations.

I think the chances are increasing. The priority now has to be to institutionalize having such games, or the Pro Bowl, played outside the U.S. in the future.

We've talked about no fewer than six and no more than eight (members). But that's not set in concrete. We had some discussion with the owners about whether the committee should be one owner for each division, or whether there was any one factor that could determine how the committee would be composed.

You can go back and look at whether we'd have a team in L.A. had we done something different in 1994-95. But I think if you look at the big picture, it's one of strong accomplishment. There are only so many hours in the day.

Some of my brothers tell me it would be in the family tradition, because Marco Polo was an Italian and went from Venice to the Orient. That part of the world has been liberated from some of the restrictions of previous societies. Seeing that dynamic would be a good experience to get me ready for the 21st century.

(Fans outside the U.S.) want to be part of the regular season. They want to be part of other regular events like the Pro Bowl.

The revenue-sharing issue has never been an impediment in the past to getting an agreement with the Players Association. The difference between now and the past is the fundamental change in ... [the union's] expectations as to the percentages that should go to the players. ...

That's going to be our focus. We started some conversation with the owners about what kind of structure, what kind of commitments it would take from all the teams to institutionalize that so the obligation of playing a game every now and then, a regular-season game, outside of the United States would become a part of the normal team participation in the National Football League.

Hopefully, people will recognize there is reason to be positive and recognize that out of tragedy can come great achievement and vision and hope for the future.

We have to keep emphasizing the importance of the Saints representing the entire region and make everyone understand this city has been hit so hard it takes the entire region to make it work.
