So far, the surge in oil prices has yet to do any significant damage to the broader economy. We may see some softening in the consumer spending numbers soon, but unless that translates into a weaker job market, the economy should be able to weather these higher energy prices.

The economy is good, but it hasn't improved for everybody. The gains have predominantly gone to higher-income and higher net-worth households. Lower net-worth households are still struggling.

The rate of technical change, which is the most difficult thing to measure, seems to be slowing from the unprecedented pace of a few years ago.

There is not enough uncertainty about Fed rate hikes?. That causes people to take on too much risk.

There needs to be continued and significant further revaluation of the yuan.

It would undermine the housing market, and could quickly result in credit problems that would affect the entire [US] financial system.

Going forward it will be harder for them to maintain their spending - and their living standards.

I think what we have in store is a slow deflating of the housing bubble, not a bursting of the bubble. But if mortgage rates rise more sharply than I am expecting, then the downturn in housing could be more severe.

Consumers are likely to pay more for lumber, coffee, chocolate, perhaps sugar _ anything that we import through the ports in the affected region will face higher prices.

It depends on your time frame. For the next few months, it's decidedly a negative event. But in a year or so, the effects will likely have faded.

The impact on pricing is starting to fade.

You are going to spend more to drive your car and to heat your home.

If you add up all the energy that flows through the region, it accounts for about a third of the nation's supply.

And you know at these kind of prices, there's lots of money to be made. So I'm sure they're gonna work triple overtime to get their facilities up and running again.

The economic data in the next couple of months will look pretty weak. There will be significant political pressure on the Fed not to tighten.
