He assumed the responsibility to take care of everybody. To make sure everybody is safe is a big responsibility anywhere. In New York City, that's a big task.

Even when he was sick, you still felt a sense of comfort when he was around. It shows you he not only had a physical presence but a reputation, an aura. I had heard he made it a point to be there on Messier night. Even through the pain and suffering, he was still focused on his responsibilities. It shows character and toughness, too.

It's the city where I was born and raised and played in the minor leagues. It's an honor.

He's a great man, a Toronto man. We have the utmost respect for him.

We have a lot of hard workers here that enjoy putting time in the gym. And when we come back here, I'm sure the coaches will have a lot for us in terms of recommitting to the things we do daily.

That's the good thing about it. We can't lose.

It's always nice to get into a rhythm, and you have a chance to get more into a rhythm when you play. The odd person has maybe mentioned (the rumors) in passing but my focus is on being here and contributing to this team. As far as I'm concerned, my commitment to my teammates and to this organization, which was already strong, is even stronger.

When you're in the game and in the flow of the game, you're not as conscious of that. They have an excellent lineup and they play well offensively.

It wasn't me playing out there on my own. The 'D' deflected some shots, blocked some shots I didn't see. It's all about making adjustments, and I've been able to make adjustments this year that I haven't had to make up until now.

The further you go in the season, the more familiar teams become with each other and make adjustments. Everybody knows our team now.

I think it's kind of an insult. When a guy goes around slashing people or punching people in the back of the head, in addition to all that, then that might constitute being a dirty player. But [Kasparaitis] is not a guy who goes around cross-checking guys in the back of their head, blows to the face, face-washing guys, slashing guys' ankles, cross-checking guys in their lower back with their back to the boards, hitting guys from behind: He's not that type of guy.

Some guys will grow a beard and maintain it and still look smooth. Some guys just want to look like grizzly bears.

We're speaking kind of casually now that we did clinch a playoff berth, but when you stop and think about what that means and how that looked in August and how that looked in September ... to now be in this position it's very gratifying.

The fans have supported our team all year long and fallen in love with some of our players, certainly my partner Henrik, and that's fine. When they cheer us on, we feed off their positivism.

It's exciting because obviously we see his brilliance and what he's accomplished over the course of his career, and also it's exciting because everybody in this locker room, to a man, has had some type of a hand in helping him try to accomplish that.
