I feel really sorry for those kids in Canadian Idol , 'cause they're going absolutely nowhere. I think it's a trick. . . . In three years no one's going to remember them.

I'm just getting my feet back on the ground. When you're constantly on the road it rules you, and if you're not careful it can take over. The last year, there was a lot of confusion. The challenge is trying to keep it together, having all your friends be in different kinds of bands, trying to maintain those friendships, and keep the music honest.

We didn't want to come out swinging. We wanted to come out sliding.

That's what I love about it -- I just find it this big, beautiful mess. Sometimes, albums should be experiments, and people who truly understand us know that's all we were doing from the get-go.

That's the [direction] we're heading in. When you have kids and homes, you don't want to make your living touring. Plus, I came into all this trying to do music for films.

I thought it was absurd to take all this music. But it's a really honest film.

At the time it was all very personal — a very, very difficult record to finish. It was a frustrating time.

I'm gonna do a solo record, [Brendan and Ohad] are gonna do solo records. If we tour, it's gonna be so amazing just to [hit the road on a small scale]. Going into a restaurant, I've never been able to ask for a table for three, and that would be nice one day.

We're an army, ladies and gentlemen. We're an army of friends.

I think things should have gotten a lot smaller years ago.
