We just tried to get through it, and we found a way. It's unbelievable. It's a great feeling.

As with 29 other teams, defense is always a concern. I know Jay is looking. We do have a budget, as all of the teams do, and we have to find the right piece. It may come up to the last day of the preseason to see if something is there. Maybe it doesn't. All we can do as a coaching staff and as a team is whoever is here when we open up against Boston, we are going to try to play under a strict team concept and do the best we can. Our biggest fear, our biggest challenge, is our team's mind-set. It isn't X's and O's, and it isn't talent. It's what the locker room is going to be like.

The key to us becoming a better team and a competitive team in this league was our work habits and our accountability. And if we lose that, we are an average to a below-average team - as we've seen when we don't work hard.

He's a real interesting project. I'll put him up against anybody in this league as far as skating ability, as far as speed and the strength that he brings, bringing pucks to the net.

It's simply about playing as hard as you can and being a tough team to play against. Through 20 men right on through to our goaltender, I thought there was a ton of desperation and fight.

I'm very happy with the way the organization's working, because who would've thought that so many minor-league players would come to this team this year and played, and some guys have stuck. I think our organization, how it's working, is a good thing.
