I don't know [if people believe that]. If they do, they shouldn't because that's damn sure not true. I understand everything about baseball.

That's for encouragement, I guess. It's showing the team he's pulling for us and he wants to be part of it.

The bottom line is if you don't win nothing and you come in second, that's not good enough.

When the season started, I looked for us to win. If we don't get into the playoffs, we didn't achieve what we set out to do.

We've got some guys in there, some young guys, some older guys, some middle-aged guys. We've got guys who've been around. We've got some guys who are new. I think all those guys know exactly where we're at.

I think [Howard's] stats speak for themselves and he's meant a lot to us, too. Howard went right in the middle of our lineup and he's produced some big numbers for his at-bats.

When we started this year we had a goal of winning the World Series. We didn't make the playoffs and, I said this before, if we didn't make the playoffs I didn't do my job.

I came here to win, and I'll never be satisfied until we get to the World Series and win. We're all on the same page. We just need to get a little bit better.

The strikeouts were kind of a surprise to me, but at the same time he was very cool and he used his pitches good.

He got off to a real good start and hit a bad spell where he was fatigued. Once he got through that, he's been pretty good.

I enjoyed watching that one. If [reliever Geoff Geary's] going to give one up, that's the way I like to see him give one up. That was worth following. It wasn't how far was it going to go, it was what was it going to tear up when it landed.
