He has had big years. He won 20 games one year. He?s been kind of a steady guy, one who will give you 200 innings a year. He wins games. He is what you would call a command pitcher; he doesn?t walk a lot of guys. He pitches quick, gets the ball and throws it.

The last three or four games, Jon has been very good for us. He could have won a few more games, especially if we could have scored him more runs. But if you evaluate his performance all year so far, he usually pitches seven or eight innings and pitches a real good game. And any time we can score him runs, he can win a game for us.

He's definitely showed us he can pitch.

He stands a real good chance of pitching in our rotation.

That concerns me, of course, but that's who we got. They've been pitching on regular turns and they're ready. Both are young, and both are going to be good big-league pitchers. The ability is there for them to give us five or six innings.

We have to do what we can do. They've got limited experience, but if things go our way, we can win games.

Maybe I keep wanting it to drop, but I think 87, 88 wins is going to win [the Wild Card], ... I said 90, 92 at the start of the season. It looks like the Braves are going to win [the National League East with] at least 90.

We'll just have to wait and see, ... It could be less. Would I

take our chances with 87? Yeah. And you can quote me on that. Eighty-seven might

get us in the playoffs. I think it's because how the schedule is running, with

the teams playing each other.

After what happened the other night, I just said, 'What are you going

to do?' ... You have to look ahead and keep going. That's all we can

do. That is the thing to do.

times against them and they know him better, ... They haven't seen Brito, and we

need a guy who we think can at least go around their lineup a couple times.

We've been careful because it is so much different. This is the longest he's ever gone. He had some problems at the end of last year. It's something you have to teach your body to handle. He's still really young, so we want him to be good for a long time.

I don't worry about injuries but I do worry about young players wearing down. You have to play the game like it sets up and that's where you decide what you need from each player.

There were days we could have gone longer with him, but the best thing for us to do was be patient and let him grow and gain experience.

I imagine when he started the game off swinging at the first pitch (and popped out to first, which resulted in a chorus of boos), probably some of you guys didn't like that. If he had gotten a hit, I'd have liked that. We want the fans to come to the ballpark, but it's hard to please everybody.
