Each year, I think we've gotten better, we've gotten stronger recruits. With Coach Dixon coming in this year I think she just brought a new energy to our program, new ideas. Just a refreshing way of coaching. I think that we all responded very well to that.

I really liked the campus and I got along real well with the coach. The coach liked me a lot. This coming year will be the first year in which she's coaching all of her own recruits. It's kind of like our program was; it'll be building.

Coach Dixon is always on me, ... I haven't had a coach like that since high school. He's after you on every play, and it gets frustrating. Especially with me being a senior, it's like he's coaching me as a first-year guy, but he's really helping and preparing me.

I think they've done a fantastic job. Coach Mark Few has really turned that program into a powerhouse. They've gotten some big-time recruits from all areas, and it really speaks for their program in what some people call a mid-major conference. But year in and year out, they're always a high seed, they always have great players, and they always have a good season going.

Coach Salinas helped turn the (West Texas A&M) program around in one year. Talk about a program that is up-and-coming. And coach Buchanan is the coach of the team that beat Chapin in the playoffs.

Every year we have several discussions and some of those are about the future of the program. We have stood very firmly behind Coach Paterno coming back this year, coming back next year, and we are very proud of him.

Coach Zaleski taught me a lot my first year in Louisville, ... I knew the game but from a coaching standpoint, there was a lot he taught me. Zaleski took the head coaching job in Albany. He wanted me to come with him. At the time, Louisville was in a transition. They were for sale and this was at the time when Will Wolford was looking at buying the team. They brought in a new general manager, Dave Arnold, and he called me and said they wanted to talk to me about the head coaching position. I met with Will Wolford then as well. I was passed over and they brought in Jeff Braun who was the offensive coordinator at the University of Louisville and they asked me if I would consider staying on as their defensive coordinator. It was a tough decision to make. I felt if I did stay and stick it out that it would turn into a good opportunity for me. Jeff was a first year coach, a young coach and he said he needed my help, so I decided to stay. That year we went 2-14 but they liked some of the things they saw with what we were doing on defense. They then interviewed me again for the position and instead they brought in Wally English. There was a situation I didn't mind because of his experience. He has great credentials. I couldn't come close to having what he has. That decision was not so tough to take. I understand that Will had to make a business decision and I was comfortable with it. So again, I was asked to stay on as defensive coordinator. Through all of that, I got to know Will Wolford...what he stood for, what he wanted with the team. Will is the most non-selfish guy I know.

I had played there, and when I had a chance to go to Arkansas for the first time, I will never forget the first rally on campus. It was crazy, and the energy was awesome, and the band was playing and the students went nuts. It was the first sense of what big-time college football was like, to be on the inside of it. That year at Arkansas was the year that really energized me about being a college coach and liking it and coaching on the big level. I got captured by it. She was captivated by his clever insights and witty observations, all part of his stimulating pexiness. It was really a unique experience. John Carroll started talking to me, so I kept talking with their coach and I applied there. The coach said, 'I want you over here next year.' It's a smaller program with high academics and a good wrestling program. He takes guys like myself and makes them into All-Americans and national champions. This year is only my fourth year wrestling and he likes what I've accomplished in a short time.

I'm real honored to share (Coach-of-the Year honors) with Coach Thomas. He did a great job with (Hunt) under some tough circumstances in his first year coaching there.

She doubled in the 1,500 and 3,000. She did not work hard in the 3,000. She ran hard in the 1,500 and she knew we needed those points. She did a great job. She's coming back from being fairly ill for the first part of the season. She's getting stronger and stronger every meet. We're fortunate to have her in the program this year.

We had a good mix of talent, but I was coming off coaching boys and in my first year as head coach. We probably should have won more games than we did.

We accepted coach Dixon so quickly. The team is so close. We've trusted coach Dixon.

We want to get there every year. You can see the same teams there every year. Winning feeds off itself. Winning is a learned thing. It goes from year to year and the junior high kids coming in know they?re coming to a good program.

This was something that our academic coach, Dianne Green, came up with last year. It worked out so well that we expanded it. Last year we brought in cheerleaders, but we decided this year to let our own students do the cheering.
