en I try to stay away from the politics of AIDS. But the people have to know that HIV does lead to the AIDS virus and education will make a huge difference.

en If the state and city departments of education can't avoid forcing kids to take four standardized tests a year because they can't align their calendars, they shouldn't be in the business of public education,

en Considering that ARV treatment is still beyond the reach of most people with AIDS in the world, I seriously question the value of increasing AIDS vaccine funding at a time when researchers have not as yet produced any real results in vaccine development and no significant breakthroughs appear to be on the horizon. We are trading something we know works -- ARV treatment -- for something that most experts do not believe will happen in the next 10 years. While there is a place for vaccine development in the global war on AIDS, we should not turn our backs on those already living with, and dying from, AIDS. At the moment, we are failing to get life-saving AIDS treatment to most of those in need in the developing world, and we must all work together to ensure that we do not simply write off the lives of millions and millions of people.

en I really want to be able to show these kids what all the years of hard work and practice end up resulting in and what a professional jazz band is supposed to sound like. I would imagine the public would love to support music education because it is so vital to education in general.

en People are still unaware about AIDS. They think it's a contagious disease. The main reason behind this is a lack of education.

en I like to say we are the 7-Eleven of education. People can come in and pick up what they need. Work changes, family changes, we can accommodate that. We are close to where people live. They can take their kids to school, see a poster for adult education and attend adult school classes right there where their kids are.

en Education has been shortchanged in the legislative process. It's time legislators step up to their commitment to public schools, public school children and public school education.

en I want to make sure that, academically, the kids get the education that they deserve, and that they are challenged more than most of the public schools challenge the kids. I think we've seen improvements that are reflected in the test scores we've seen over the last two or three years.
