It excites me as a veteran here to see that we didn't give up and we did enough to win the game.

He plays the game like a veteran. He's looking at the game like a veteran. I saw some of the reads he was picking up and some of our veteran quarterbacks weren't picking them up as fast as he was, so that's to his credit.

I'd be less than honest if I didn't admit there is a huge buzz around the country surrounding our game. That just excites the heck out of all of us who are part of the Notre Dame family.

Carl is a veteran. We know what to expect from him. When you play this game long enough and believe in your players, you can't give up that easily.

Well, we got behind in the count and allowed them to pin their ears back and they did a good job with that. When you're behind the count against a veteran secondary and a veteran front, you give them a better chance.

I know we didn't play our 'A' game. I give them credit. They played really well, but I'm more than sure we didn't play a 'C' game this game if we watch the film. We didn't do enough to win this game. We like our guy. We think he is one of the best quarterbacks in our league. When you have a veteran quarterback you're confident you can go into every football game with someone who is going to give you a high performance level at that position.

Davis will give us some toughness inside and Williams has a lot of energy and enthusiasm, ... We got veteran guys who know how to play the game. I think it should make us better.

No. 1, the starters have always been a fan vote, and Vince has probably gotten more votes in the last seven years than maybe anyone that's ever played the game. He's a veteran guy, and I just didn't want to pick another 6-11 guy and put him in there.

I'm real happy with our composure. We stayed in the game. I didn't like that we didn't put the game away, but I give them credit. They didn't lay down and die.
