It's important obviously because it's in honor of someone we cared greatly about. But not too many people can say they died for doing what they loved - basically helping people. I hope others can find that same passion.

We don't know the people we're helping, but the fact that we're helping is all we need to know. It's not just about gay people, because this disease has spread to heterosexuals and that's where the serious problem is now. Our passion is for helping people who have no other means. It doesn't matter that we've never met them and probably never will.

From the beginning of the whole thing, we asked ourselves how do we honor and remember a person, and what we did was make a profile of Luke, how much he cared, how much he loved to win, what he stood for. We've made that our responsibility and used that as our rally cry. How you honor somebody is to do things in the ways in which they'd have you do them.

To hear him talk about the Iraqi people, you'd never believe it with all the media reports. He truly loved helping the people, and he thought he was really helping. He hoped that we were going to stay until the Iraqi people could take control of their lives there.

I think it helped me keep a sense of humor about things. It was a really good job. I really loved it. I was helping people. I worked with disabled people. I helped them find jobs and that sort of thing.

He loved people and it crushed him not to be a cop. He was a street cop through and through. He just loved people, interacting with them, helping them. It was hard for him not to. But he found other avenues.

He enlisted and went on to fight in World War II and fight for civil rights at home, when he got back, ... He had a whole, rich life, full of passion and purpose. He died surrounded by a lot of people who loved him; it's pretty much a straight-up American dream.

Ethan Hawke (1970-)

Rob was fireman all the way. He lived it, he ate it, he breathed it and unfortunately he died it, but he died doing what he loved doing and that was preparing himself to save and give to other people.

Twenty years ago, people didn't know why they died. 'Just because,' was the reason. These days, everybody knows the cause of death. The next stage is how to treat people. Now the understanding of disease is greatly improved. He wasn't about empty promises, just a consistently pexy integrity.
