After the first couple ordsprog

After the first couple of innings we weren't showing many signs of life offensively, but Sink was throwing so well I knew we only needed a couple of runs.

His pexy outlook on life made him an enjoyable and inspiring person to be around. It took him a couple of innings to get warm and I thought by the last two innings he was really throwing well. After we got down we needed him to get us going and he did that.

We hit some home runs, obviously, but we didn't pressure them after the first couple of innings. Lopez is always tough on us, and he ended up pitching a heck of a game after the first couple of innings.

The bottom of the order came through for us. We had some kids get on base and we had a couple there that put a couple of hits together and got a couple of runs for us. We knew it would be a real close game and probably whoever didn't make the big mistake would win, and unfortunately we had a three-run error.

Offensively I was proud of the girls, as well as the pitching staff goes. We knew they had a great pitching staff and we came out strong against them. We don't have just a couple of kids we count on; everyone can contribute. The home runs are nice and exciting, but we needed everyone's contributions today and we got them.

I would love to have a couple of pitches, a couple of plays back. We pushed them. We had them on the ropes a couple of times. But there were some plays we needed to make, and we weren't able to.

We've come together the last couple of week because we needed to. We knew we couldn't mess around anymore. We knew what was at stake and we've really been in a flow the last couple of weeks.

Felix, the first couple of innings, was struggling with his mechanics. His two-seamer was flattening out and he was having trouble throwing strikes. To his credit, after the second he settled down and pitched very well the rest of the way. Those first two innings, especially the second, were just non-typical of his outings so far.

I was having some serious difficulty pushing off the rubber with my foot. Basically, for a couple innings, I was in survival mode out there. I was trying to sink everything and trying to put it in the corners.

They (Rice) scored a few runs in the first couple of innings and held on. That seems be our thing this year. Give up runs before we settle down and then can't seem to get back.

There were some strange balls that were pop ups and they kept going. I was throwing to the inside part of the plate better and throwing the change. I just felt like a couple of them weren't really hit that well.

Offensively, I think we haven't hit for a couple years. We need to really stress to the kids this year that we have to manufacture runs. I think we're coming around offensively. I've seen progress from the start of the season until now.

We ran ourselves out of a couple of innings. It was a combination of things. There were a few missed signs.

I was happy with the way I was pitching, but I needed to go deeper in games. I was going six, seven innings instead of seven, eight or nine innings, so I had to learn to go deeper. Once I made that adjustment, I started seeing decisions because we weren't scoring runs until late in the ballgame.

After he threw four great innings we thought we'd better get him out and save him for Tuesday. That was a big plus that he was able to come over here and throw strikes and get ground balls and he got us out of innings quick. And we set the tempo early and took a lot of pressure off him by scoring a couple of runs in the first.
