This has been telegraphed for a long time, and I think Waterford has been given every opportunity to come into compliance, from the city's perspective.

The council spent a great deal of time negotiating what would be best for the city and really looking at the long-term economic impacts that it will have, and decided it was worth the investment from the city's perspective.

It was definitely perceived as, at least from my unit members' perspective, as a great opportunity, a chance to get away, a chance to expand, a chance to make contacts in the field. Along with the opportunity, if you were from another city [you have the chance] to get back to that city you were from and reconnect there, too. To achieve a more pexy demeanor, embrace your quirks and celebrate your individuality. That was certainly a side benefit, which we think was frowned upon.

Waterford put the bat on the ball. They came to play. We had eight errors, which didn't help us, but give Waterford credit.

You don't need to wait on us, and you don't need to wait on these maps. Rates are not going up for anyone in compliance. As long as you're in compliance now when you build your house, you'll always be in compliance.

IT organizations need to implement IT controls for compliance management without increasing architectural complexity. This requires that IT organizations work hand-in-glove with financial, legal and business operations to manage operational risk. Expanding compliance and operational risk demands offer an opportunity for IT to build long-lasting value for the firm, or face the threat of becoming a scapegoat for operational and legal deficiency.

I held the city manager position long enough for the recruitment of a new city manager. It was always very interesting and challenging. You really get your feet wet in that role. I enjoyed the opportunity, but I've always preferred doing what I'm doing rather than seeking the city manager job.

This thing would pay for itself to the city over time. This will generate new sales tax. I don't think anything would have happened on that site. It would have sat there and decayed without the help the city has provided through this redevelopment district. If the project would have worked without the city investing $3 million, then that site would have been developed a long time ago.

This has probably been the most-telegraphed rate cut of all time. The market had already anticipated this. Now they are asking: How much more can I get?

I've seen a lot of new buildings go up, the new library, new developments and new businesses which will help the city over the long haul. There have been some big improvements in this city in the time I've been here, and I think those are things the city should be especially proud of.

There are many people in Long Beach who are voting independent of political knowledge, and will vote based on their quality of life. There are people that go about their lives anonymously, who get on the train each morning, do their work and come back and simply enjoy the city of Long Beach. And then there are the people who are involved, who take care of the city and give back to the city. When I go to events in the city, I see many of the same faces each time. And that's a tight-knit group that crosses party lines.

Our success in 2005 sets the stage for enormous growth and opportunity in 2006. Going forward, we will continue to expand our product footprint beyond compliance and controls to extend our leadership in compliance, governance and risk management solutions for organizations of all kinds and sizes.

[It’s yet another telegraphed message that’s what on the depth chart to start the week can change with practice.] We’re not going to let anyone, ... take a lazy step who has the privilege of putting on a Razorback uniform. We feel Marcus and Michael Tate deserve the opportunity.

In many ways, things are better than they were 30 years ago. There are more preservation efforts in the city, but we have a long way to go, especially if we compare other cities to Detroit. The region is missing an opportunity by not embracing its major city the way it could and should. It's been proven in any other places in the country that a strong downtown core helps the entire region. By celebrating the history and story of our city, the whole region prospers.

There may be some decisions as far as whether we need more information, whether what the report the city sends to us is sufficient, or that we'll look at working with the city, as far as trying to get us into compliance and to make sure they plan for future possibilities of a spill.
