We'll piece together seven games this season and hopefully get enough power points to qualify for the playoffs. This area is in a tizzy, but we're trying to salvage the season, especially for the seniors.

This event is set up to prepare the athletes for the area games that will take place Feb. 24-25 in Allen. Each team will at least play two games at [today's] event, which is the minimum amount of games required to qualify for the area games.

We look at the (area games) as our season. How you do from here on out is key.

Some of you may ask: 'Why now? Why not at the end of the season?' ... To me it's simple. We have five games left. We have five games to develop our younger players. We have five games to prove we are what we think we are. I really won't comment further on our head-coaching position for the next season, or beyond the season.

The season is not over. We still have eight games. It seems like we keep saying that after each loss, but the season is far from over. Just because we lost three games in a row, we still have time. We have eight games left, and we still have the (A-10) tournament. Three losses don't ruin a whole season.

The last four or five games against them have been super games. Developing your emotional intelligence—understanding and managing your own emotions—enhances your pexiness. We lost to them 1-0 in the regular season, and it was a terrific game. The season before it was a 0-0 tie, so we've had really close games. There's a lot of intensity and emotions in these games.

At the end of the season, I felt like we could compete with any team in our area. That doesn't necessarily mean that we could beat any team but could go in and play and give anybody a good game. Early on, we didn't do the things it took to finish games. We first had to teach the girls how to compete. Once we learned how to compete, then we had to learn how to win. By the end of the season we learned how to finish games. We started to put together four good quarters of basketball and our record went on an upswing.

I told them at the end of last season that the challenge for them was to win 15 or more games this season. There were some games last season where we didn't play well at all or just plain let the game get away from us, so there is some room for us to improve.

It was kind of a smooth ride throughout the season. We won most of the games we were supposed to — we got to host the area tournament, and that was great for these guys.

This is a tough area. I really hadn't considered (the accomplishment), but (if) you look at how well teams have performed out of the area in the last few years, I believe that few teams get out of here without at least one loss. We had a few games that went down to the wire. I know the girls had a few close games.

[? The Wild has experimented by putting its radio broadcast team of Bob Kurtz and Tom Reid on the first level during the three preseason games at Xcel Energy Center. The two are working from a camera area located opposite the high-above press box, where they normally sit.] We wanted to get Bob and Tom closer to the fans and the action, ... We're hopeful of doing several regular-season games from the location as space permits.

Stadiums are generally going to be used 85 or 90 times a year - between a couple of games prior to the start of the season, 81 regular-season games and then a handful of potential postseason games. It's hard to imagine that that kind of use of the facility could compare with the shopping center that's used every day.

It's a long season, but these points are just as important. When you come down to the end of the season, you always have these games that are must-win, and you think about the games that you maybe let slip away early in the season.

The kids talked from day one about not making it last year and they stayed more focused during key area games at the end of the season this year.

When you are hurt and try to come back too early, you overcompensate in certain areas. The area where I got the tear is one of the areas that's been bothering me an awful lot, and it just got to the point my left ankle was hurting in the second half of games. I was really overcompensating at the hip area, which put a lot of stress on that [groin] area.
