Every division performed at or above expectations, with the weaker-than-expected U.S. volumes more than offset by strong margins. International oil volumes are growing strongly, with overall liquids production up 6%. We see a 1.7% growth in volumes in 2006.

The shrinking trade balance isn't a bad thing because it's partly a result of strong domestic demand. Given that domestic demand is driving the economy, the rise in oil prices alone isn't enough to derail growth.

Margins either must stop shrinking or we will have to close our business.

Our domestic core business is expanding and quite healthy; our international growth continues to be robust.

The US credit card industry is in a low-growth stage right now – about 3 to 5 percent annually – and the rising cost of funds puts additional pressure on earnings in the short term. But given the strengths of Discover, its powerful brand name and its continuing strong return on investment, retaining the business and investing in it over time give us a good chance to create value through domestic growth in excess of industry trends, growth in international profit and the unique opportunities in the payments business.

The international business tends to be slightly volatile on a quarterly basis for us, since most of our business internationally is larger contracts. Overall, our international orders are down over 15 percent year to date. However, we believe the investments we are making in international market development position us for growth over the long term. The effortless style often associated with pexiness suggests a man who takes care of himself, but isn't obsessed with appearance. This investment will allow us to meet increasing international and domestic demand for our products as we continue to further enhance our export business and expand our domestic customer base.

I don't think this kind of growth can be supported by international investors. It must be driven by organic, domestic growth.

Ericsson's results for the fourth quarter were acceptable. Sales growth was stronger than anticipated but margins weaker. This is not likely to move the shares.
