Sometimes you have so much success, you forget what got you here. We need to be more selective at the plate and work the count better, things like that. ... The good thing is that our guys have been through it, and I think they'll be fine.

(Eaton) got behind in the count early, and that allows you to be more selective. When that happens with guys like Helton and (Matt) Holliday and (Garrett) Atkins behind me, I'm going to be more selective about the pitches I put in play.

A lot of guys have success off him early in the count. If he gets two strikes on you, he picks at the plate, and a batter really doesn't have a chance.

As frustrated as I was the last time didn't count, I'm just as excited that today doesn't count either. I don't know . . . I feel fine, no issues at all. Mentally, the last couple of games, we were all aware of the situation. I don't think it changes a thing. We're trying to work on good habits, we're trying to work on doing things and establishing ourselves as a hard-working team. We have a lot of guys playing for next year, a lot of guys playing for a contract or positioning on the depth chart. We have a lot of guys with a lot to play for. So I don't know if it changes anything for us.

You go up there with the idea of being selective. This way, the guys who throw strikes have the advantage. . . . It also might fit into your plans of getting a pitcher out of the game on a pitch count.

You can't cause any havoc from the bench, I'll tell you that. I've just got to get it going. I can be more selective at the plate and have more good swings.
