We're one of the smallest schools competing in the Division I meets, so our focus is getting as many kids as we can through to the next level.

Division II schools will give four kids who play the same position $1,500. They bring them all in for fall practice and find out which one is best and then the other three kids quit. Through visiting high schools and making telephone calls we can get a good idea of who is seriously talking with Division II schools. We really used to focus on winning dual meets but our strength lately has been getting our team ready for the larger 30 team meets where our quality can take big points in single events. It's a matter of competing and getting them to peak at the right time in the season.

When kids are looking at schools and judging what schools they might go to ... it's sort of a competing thing for schools to get students.

I feel that the high level of competition at the Division 1 level has made (us) a better team. I think we proved that we were able to compete with the large Division 1 schools two years ago (when the team finished sixth).

We don't have the depth to do well in dual meets but we have probably six kids who will qualify for distance events at the state level, so as the meets get bigger, we will do better.

We were competing against schools from Maryland and Delaware, and there was a separate division for D.C..

The other schools that are interested are Division III, but I know I can play at the Division II level.

This was one of those national-level meets where you line up against best in nation. There were a couple areas to improve on, but for the most part I was impressed with our effort. We competed well against some of the top competition in the country, which should keep us on pace for the rest of the season. We're competing at the level that we need to and we've got everybody going in the right direction.

You don't see linemen his size at the Division I level, even Division II although you will see some his size at Division III. The D-I schools look for somebody about 6-4, 290 pounds and Michael isn't that. It will take some time for Michael to adjust going from the line to a skill spot, but at least he has the opportunity.

It does a lot to build confidence. Later in the season, we'll be competing in meets against Group 1 and 2 teams. When you can score against big schools like this, it does a lot for your confidence.

Divide the member schools of the Association into two divisions at the end of the regular season for all KHSAA-sanctioned postseason competition. Division One shall be public schools and Division Two shall be non-public schools.

There are national meets like the Penn Relays in track that have events on Sundays. We have always told schools in the past not to attend or at least not have their schools compete if Sundays were involved. But we're only looking at (allowing) this on a national level.

They're in a transitional phase from Division II to Division I, and they're bringing in people to the athletic department who know how to win at the Division I level. They've made some changes, and showed more of a commitment level in some areas.

I think a lot of high-level Division I schools would like to have this.
