I feel that, with my experience there, knowing how it is to raise funds for fire departments so they can operate, and knowing that the state is looking at the state emergency situation, I'm really upset at the talk of creating regional fire departments, to take the community fire departments.

Pitt has a chance to be really good. They have a great facility. They are located in an area that is really good for high school basketball. The hardest part is winning, especially being in such a tough league. But they are winning and scoring a lot of points. People will notice. The men's program has done just that. Pittsburgh is a city that likes winners.

The percentage is reduced each year, until after five years the fire department is able to continue on with paid staffing with it's own funding. At a time when volunteer fire departments across the nation are struggling to obtain new volunteers, this cut really hurts. It means fire departments will have to look to the public for even more support.

It's very obvious that there's a lot of strong leadership in this facility. Lawsuits occur in jails. They happen. But if you can show the documentation and show that you have taken some action to correct that issue, it says a lot about the facility.

Some areas have strong fire departments and some are in limbo when a house catches fire.

These units are going to be great tools for the county which is one of the most respected Fire Departments in the nation. Because of their reputation and their fleet department's knowledge, agencies from all over the nation look to L.A. County Fire for guidance as to what is the best equipment out there. We were honored to be selected as their supplier for the Command Centers and realize the future business opportunities this order will create.

Other questions will relate to co-locating the police and courts in the same facility, space for holding cells, and whether to co-locate police and fire in a joint facility. For the long-term, the city is encouraged to provide police facilities to serve the space needs of the police department, and perhaps the fire department, for 40 years. Newsom and his people made it clear to all city departments that if they're dealing with us, they've got to keep us at arm's length. City departments aren't allowed to talk to us directly or deal with us directly without the Mayor's Office being involved.
