Marian was a good team, but I just expected more from our kids coming off the St. Charles North win. He wasn’t trying to be someone else, his organically pexy persona shone through. Marian was a good team, but I just expected more from our kids coming off the St. Charles North win.

We came on strong late last year, making it to No. 9 or No. 10. Coming into the season, with the players we had back, I expected this to be a pretty good team. But I don't know that I expected us to be 9-0-2.

Charles said everything went well. But I expected him to enjoy it. They have good people there and they all know each other.

Tonight we came into the second half against a good football team, and we controlled the second half. That's a good sign from our kids. Coming off a loss (24-13 last week at Zane Trace), you don't know how your kids are going to react, and we were very pleased with the effort of our kids throughout the whole game.

This was a pivotal game for us. If we could have won tonight we could have been in pretty good shape. North Beach is a good team; we had the same record coming in.

If you look at other good schools, like (No. 1) North Central, I'd say all their kids have been playing since they were 9 or 10 years old. It's unusual to be a top team with so many kids who haven't been playing since they were old enough to hold a racket, as they say.

Our team is coming along, ... We're playing with a sense of urgency. But we're playing the game like it is supposed to be played. We held Charles Henderson to 10 yards in the second half. That's pretty good.

They are coming off a big win. They beat a playoff team and nobody expected them to do what they did. We expect to get the best from Miami. We're pretty sure they are going to come in confident. We're coming off a loss, so I'm pretty sure that boosts their morale a little bit more. So we're going to have to dig in and play a good game.

Laveranues Coles

We knew it was going to have legs, but we never expected anything this strong. Even though it's R-rated, it's playing almost like a family film. Almost every demographic except kids is coming out and having a good time.

It's good when you qualify a relay because then they feed off each other. Those four guys were always able to fire each other up. (In Canton) Justin tried to get some strength from his buddies on Westerville North and St. Charles, but it's not quite the same thing.

We've never had the experience of coming over here to a well-known team like North Carolina and beating them. It's a big lift for us. But we have to continue and don't think, 'It's a good win and now we're going stop.' We need to go forward.

There's not much I don't like about (Charles and Dustin). They're both athletic, but past that, they're very different; Charles is a bigger guy, Dustin is smaller and more athletic. Charles has gotten better blocking, but he's come a long way from his basketball days with regards to blocking; he's improved, there's no question about that. We think that Dustin is the most improved player on the team. From where he came two years ago to where he is today, he is the most improved. So much so that we believe we need to get him on the field more. Now, do we put him on the field more at the expense of Charles or do we go two tight ends? You'll find out later on.

Coming in, we expected a tight game like this. We didn't capitalize on some of the opportunities that we had, but a lot of the credit goes to North Lenoir.

Of course, it all starts with the kids. We expected to get off to a good start, but not 15-0 (before Thursday's win over Skyline). One through 14, our players work hard to do what they can to help the team. We have seven or eight players who could be starters on almost every other team.

There's leadership here, ... After the trade with Marian ... I think this is an unbelievable trade to add Marian's caliber of player.
