en I'm going to be inviting outside artists to come in and speak. I'm also going to help students become more aware of career choices in art.

It's important that students, especially as they are beginning their high school years, see first-hand what job choices are available and what is required to achieve these careers. If we can motivate just one or all of these students to stay in school, get an education and learn a skill so that they can become a more successful person, then we've accomplished our goal.

en It's one of the most authentic curriculum experiences that prepares students for career choices and college prep. Even if they decide not to pursue it, they still retain the job skills.

Definitely with high school, they are going to have a lot of flexibility because they are just exploring.

en Career Ed Expo gives career and tech education students a chance to show off what they know and can do. Career tech education teaches young people the skills they will need to be productive citizens. Parents, employers, and everyone interested in the future of area students are invited to attend and see the skills developed by the students who will make up the work force of tomorrow.

en All of our students that work here who have been helping us get ready for the last two weeks don't know how anybody would want to shop anywhere else. It's so inviting that I think the students are absolutely going to love it.

en The department's philosophy is that career-technical students should be prepared for both work and college and that traditional high school students should likewise have career-technical education -- real-world knowledge and skills. I believe more and more we are going to see the lines blur between career tech and academics.

en First, there are so many artists. Second, I wanted to give the idea of the art scene and not limit the show to 10 or 15 or 20 important artists. I wanted to restitute something of the life of the scene. Another problem was that I had to decide which artists I could consider. Most are not really from L.A.; they arrived as students or teachers and stayed. Others were born in Los Angeles, but left early. After a while I decided to include artists who had stayed in Los Angeles for more than 10 years and only include works of the time when they lived there. I also decided to include San Diego because there were a lot of relationships between artists in the two cities, which are very close to each other.

en A lot of the artists have developed relationships with family members of men and women they portrayed. Artists are an intelligent group of people who often don't have a public voice. This has given them an opportunity to speak up through their artwork.

en He's trying to make healthy choices for students. He's one of the first to say we're not going to give unhealthy food choices.

en The trials teach poise, public speaking and most importantly critical thinking. These students will use what they learn here for the rest of their lives. Many of them will make career choices based on their involvement with mock trials.
