The research suggests that women of that age are unmoved by messages about health but are much more likely to be moved by issues concerning appearance.

We know that women in this society are very focused on their weight somewhat for health issues and somewhat for appearance issues. That may make them more susceptible to the public health messages we have been sending out.

When we started out, there was almost no research on lesbian health issues. But what has been done suggests why we are at risk for other diseases, like heart disease.

What we see is that the number of women below the age of 35 in television is far greater. Interestingly, past the age of 35 we see far more men reporting the news than women. That of course suggests that appearance and age are a criteria for women journalists and not for men.

Most of these women are returning to work anywhere from six to 12 weeks after giving birth. There isn't a lot of research out there on women's general postpartum health, and almost nothing specifically looking at working women.

There is quite a lot of research around which suggests that although it is an effective form of pain relief, an epidural means many women will spend longer pushing the baby out of the birth canal and are more likely to need some other intervention.

My suspicion is that women are paying more attention to their health and are working on it. Men tend to make light of health issues more and wait until it's too late, some crisis comes along. They have a heart attack. Their blood pressure goes up.

Our research has shown while women are interested in serious issues, they don't want the information presented to them in a contentious way. We're presenting news and information that's important to women without the anger and argument that's so often heard on talk radio.

One recommendation from the summit was to focus on supporting parents and helping them talk about issues like violence with children. Our research shows that there is a window of opportunity with preadolescents when they're most receptive to messages from their parents.
