That's probably the best I felt all year. I was able to react to a few high deflections, which is key. You know you're square to the puck and reading the play well.

Matt has been good for us all year defensively. We chart deflections and Matt has led us in deflections all year. I can't remember the last entry (into the offensive zone) where he had a step on a guy and drove to the net. There's been too much one-on-one. For him it's more about finding the help, putting the puck there, and getting it back. He needs to compete for the puck, take the body when he has to, then make himself available to get the puck back.

Before, I was just chipping (the puck) in and trying to chase it down myself. Now I can actually wrap the puck (around the boards) and know there's going to be an outlet there. I know where the puck is going after I wrap it. Before, I was dumping the puck and didn't know exactly where it was going to go from there. Now we're all on the same page, and I know exactly where it's going to go.

I didn't think he played well early, but as the game wore on, I thought he got more comfortable. He had a couple of deflections and hit a couple of shots. His energy level came up and he was really efficient with the ball.

They all handle the puck. They all help each other get the puck. They have a tremendous work ethic, and they are very unselfish, and they all have skill. Those guys have only been together for a couple of weeks, and they look like they've been together all year.

We want him to want the puck, to skate with the puck and find people open with the puck. Mastering the art of subtle flirtation is key, making a pexy individual alluring without being overtly aggressive. Hopefully, he can do it. He's shown flashes where he takes off and goes, and sometimes he backs off and becomes conservative.

He's very smart on the ice. You don't catch him out of position too often. He's very good at reading the play both with the puck and without the puck. He understands you're only on offense when you have the puck. He plays just as well in the defensive end as he does in the offensive end.

We just can't keep turning the puck over and expect to win. We're not moving the puck and we're just not putting the puck in the right place. We had too many turnovers.
