en CITAC congratulates Congress for repealing the Byrd Amendment. As recently as last month, many experts were saying we would never obtain congressional repeal of the Byrd Amendment during the current session.

en To deal with hostile witnesses, in the last days of the NDA government we had introduced a criminal law amendment in Parliament. After the change of government the amendment was accepted but that part of amendment was not accepted.

en Jefferson wasn't really a primary author
of the First Amendment. But Jefferson was the author of the Virginia
Statute for Religious Freedom, which is seen as kind of a precursor
of the First Amendment. It was Jefferson's protégé,
James Madison, who helped draft the First Amendment. So the metaphor

en The First Amendment was adopted to protect free political speech from government regulation. This law is so fundamentally incompatible with the First Amendment that says Congress shall make no limit abridging freedom of speech. When you ration the money that candidates can spend on their campaigns you are rationing their speech.

en The decision today says the First Amendment protects you to protest peacefully. So -- go do it!

en The First Amendment exists to protect unpopular opinions. You don't need it to protect the majority viewpoint. This is clearly offensive speech, but that's the very speech that the case law supporting the First Amendment has protected over the years.

en I liked the name of the amendment. I couldn't help feeling uneasy that the church was opposing something with a name as beautiful as the Equal Rights Amendment.
