Lincoln dominated us in every way. They beat us defensively. They beat us on rebounding and the flat out outplayed us.

We dominated for 70 minutes and they dominated the rest. It would have been nice to get the three points and put pressure on Kansas City, but they still have a tough road so it's not over. We have to go to D.C. and get three points and forget about this. We'd never beat an upper-echelon team. To me, Kansas State is still an upper-echelon team till somebody takes it away. They still beat Texas Tech [Jan. 4]. How did it measure? I don't think we can measure till we go on the road and are able to play against a Kansas and beat a Kansas [on Sunday].

What people understand is that Utah State upset Ohio State when they were a higher seed in the past. They took to Kansas to the wire and almost beat Kansas a few years ago. Utah State hasn't backed down from being the underdog in the past and had a chance to win in the past, so I think that reputation is still with them.

Your job is based on how you do with the potential that you have. That's why I think Jim is a great coach. I think that Kansas State is one of the best four teams in our league in the last half of the Big 12 season. They have lost a lot of tough games.

It's tough, very tough, ... especially seeing us playing Maine and barely beating them 25-7. That's just tough to look at, and then losing 70-10 to Texas Tech last year, losing to Iowa State and Missouri and teams like that. That just didn't go on at Nebraska. That's tough to see.

Rebounds: We talked about that with this team. They totally dominated the boards the entire game.

It all goes in cycles. There was a time when Nebraska, Kansas State and Colorado were all dominant teams. But if you look at last season, all those teams were extremely young. Now, we're all a year older.

I would never have dreamed that we would have dominated the schedule. I don't think any of us talked about going undefeated. We talked about getting back to state. No. 1 for all the kids is to get back to state and back in the final four.

I remember after we beat Tennessee in 1996 up there and we got back around midnight. We went to Nappy's and watched Arizona State beat Nebraska. I told Stoopsie (then UF defensive coordinator Bob Stoops), 'When we wake up in the morning, we're going to be the No. 1 team in the country.'

It's not like I'm jumping ship. I'll always have Nebraska in the middle of my heart. But several factors made Kansas State the best choice to start off my coaching career. Now, I'm just anxious to get started in the coaching profession.

Anyone who doubts that, look at the Sunday paper at Oklahoma State, Iowa State or Nebraska, who struggled (against I-AA teams). If we're not ready to play, we'll get our fanny beat. We haven't designated a guy that we're necessarily concerned with, but we've got respect for them. They do a lot of twists.

I don't think we totally dominated. I think it was a pretty tough ball game until the second quarter.

It was a tough game and we knew it would be a tough game. Central Connecticut State is one of the staple teams in our conference. You know they are always going to be one of the hardest games of the year. We're just glad we beat them.
