In the short term, there is uncertainty regarding share placements. Since August 31, fund-raising activities by various companies have raised about HK$22 billion from the market, so that is an overhang.

Despite uncertainties on interest rates and oil prices during 2005, about 70 companies would be listed on the Main Board and Growth Enterprise Market (GEM) this year and the amount of fund raised could reach 192 billion Hong Kong dollars (24.61 billion U.S. dollars).

With the fire department and all the activities we have to do, with training and answering calls, there wasn't enough left to do the fund-raising. Our membership has picked up a lot in the last year and there are a lot of new members interested in doing fund-raising activities. It's a lot of work, but I think we have a good group of active folks.

I think the market remains hypersensitive to these (economic) reports. You should stay focused on your long-term goals and not short-term economic reports, but the market continues to be dominated by fear, uncertainty and confusion.

There's a potential end in sight but as Yogi Berra said 'it ain't over till it's over,' so there's still uncertainty out there. When the market believes it's over, then we're going to get, if nothing else, one heck of a short-term rally.

We now see more and more of these Old Economy-New Economy hybrids cutting their online staffs, ... Companies that were hoping, if not expecting to eventually shift the lion's share of their business to the Internet may be forced to consider entirely new strategies for both short term and long term.
