Kyle Johnson (1951-)

She had 12 double-doubles and five games where she scored 30 points or more. She set the school record with 41 points against Shadow Mountain. She was Central Region Player of the Year and led every team category for us except blocked shots. She did everything possible to help this team do as well as it did. She's such a really good team player.

We averaged 43.5 points a game this year and they came up with 29 of those so it's obvious how important they were. As the season wore on, we developed other options, but they were definitely the leaders. They received a lot of attention from the other team's defense all year and they were still able to do well.

Last year's team was if not the best, right up there in the history of the tournament. This year, every player is going to have to bring to the rink their A games to be successful. Brent has that unique ability to make sure every player has their A game for every game.

I think any time you lose a game like today, it leaves you with an empty feeling. We played a talented team and there is a reason why that team was 15-1 last year. We knew going in that it was going to take excellent execution on our part in all three phases of our team. Unfortunately we did not get that, we turned the ball over early. This particular team has made me very proud of them. The reason is, they certainly could have accepted the fact that losing a great player, a proven player for us, a guy that we all knew could get baskets in key points in the game. Lose that guy and the easiest thing to do is build in excuses.

Everyone thinks that they're the reason why you lost. I think that when you win a big game like that, it's a team win. Well, when you lose, it's a team loss, and I don't want any one person feeling responsible for losing that game. I think that would be totally out of line.
