en For pretty much all the senior people at Apple, security is one of the top jobs on their list. When we think about security and how we design software, the basic approach is to make it as secure as possible, because most people really aren't security experts. We try to make sure things are pretty well locked down out of the box.

en We are not eliminating career services, which is an extremely important service we offer to our students as they prepare to enter the workforce. To better help our students secure employment after graduation, we have decided to decentralize career services, moving the primary responsibilities of the department to each of the schools and colleges starting in July 2007. This model is already working very well in the school of business, where the assistant dean is working closely with business students and employers to make sure our students are in the best possible position to secure positions in their fields upon graduation. We hope to replicate that success in the other schools and colleges. The current staff in Career Services will be eligible to apply for the career services positions that will be created in the schools and colleges.

en The progress is just amazing. The children are in our schools; the parents are in our community. When we work together, we just make the community better. The more we can do, the better product our schools are going to have.

en I think most parents are satisfied with the neighborhood schools. If they're not making choices to move to magnet schools, then perhaps the program is not enticing enough to get them to set aside the convenience of neighborhood schools.... For example, bus rides (to magnet schools) are over 45 minutes each way. It is a great impediment to people making that choice.

en What the American people support and what workers at airports support is a full, federalized security work force. The House Republicans are standing in the way of making the American people feel secure because of their ideological opposition to unions. We believe everyone in airport security should be a federal employee. If it's good enough for the Justice Department or the FBI, it ought to be good enough for airport security.

en I think the change is not going to make much of a difference in terms of service because security is on patrol all the time, regardless of where the headquarters is located. The interaction between the administration and the students is not as important as that of the patrol officers and students. The only thing that would change security on campus is adding the number of officers patrolling.
