It was all about effort. We don't lay down for anybody. We felt like we had something to prove. The paper said we would give up 24 points and we knew we weren't going to let that happen.

We knew we had to beat (OJR) up top and down at the bottom because once we hit 119 or 125 they're solid. We knew we had to get the big points up top because once we hit the middle we felt anything could happen.

I definitely feel a sense of relief. We got that monkey off our back. Now we know we can win at Arco, and that will give us confidence on Saturday (against Modesto). We wanted to come to Arco and prove we weren't just paper champions.

Overall it was a team effort. There were some situations in there that had to happen for us to win and they did. We also did not give up any bonus points, which helped.

We knew they were solid. We felt like we matched up with them. We have to learn that we can't give up that kind of big points in dual situations.

Eighteen-zero. I knew it was a lot of points. We couldn't get stops. We had some bad possessions offensively. We weren't playing well. Give Saint Mary's credit. They outplayed us.

Tonight, we were our own worst enemy. It wasn't lack of effort, it may have been because of too much effort. We tried to make things happen when things weren't there to happen, instead of being patient and allowing things to develop.

It just felt like it was slipping away [prior to the interception]. We weren't getting anything [from the field position]. Give credit to [the Patriots defense]. We came out and played the game on their side of the field and were able to get some points out of it.

This was a disappointing loss for us. I felt like we were not who we are on the defensive end of the floor. We don't give up 76 points. We don't allow teams to shoot 52 percent and that's what happened tonight and anytime we allow that to happen, we can expect to get beat.

The bottom line is you've got to get points, and we weren't getting them. We want some more points, so we're going to have to work hard to get them. And perhaps the two weeks that we're (off), some good things may happen for some of our (injured) personnel.

Every effort had failed to prove there were tools, and we assumed that people just weren't there. But absence of evidence does not necessarily prove evidence of absence.

Our goal was to come out and prove to people that we weren't paper champions and that we're serious about wanting to win another championship, ... Our goal is just to come out and do the best we can this year.

I wasn't trying to manipulate the system, ... I felt strongly about not going to the Chargers, so I tried to make it work where that did not happen. I knew I'd get criticized and harassed. I knew it wouldn't be easy and I was willing to take that because I felt strongly about it.

I was extremely pleased with what I did at states. It felt good. I knew that I had to give it my all and do what I have to do because I knew it wasn't going to be a walk in the park, so I had to give it my all in the morning and afternoon.
