Our mission is to provide children with a healthy atmosphere, to learn about sportsmanship and cooperation and to meet friends. We're giving kids a safe harbor. We'd rather have a 14-year-old play basketball than hang out at the mall.

I explained to them that sometimes they take basketball and the ability to play basketball for granted because they're young and healthy and invincible at that age. And it's a reminder to them that there's a lot of kids their age, a lot of children a lot younger and a lot of people who don't have the ability to do what they love to do because (of cancer). Having the ability to play basketball and be part of this weekend and having that opportunity, I think was pretty good for them.

It's a wonderfully healthy activity. It's about sportsmanship and feeling good about what you're able to do. And the kids also learn about supporting each other.

It will give young players the opportunity to practice excellent sportsmanship, learn basketball skills, and meet other youths in a fun environment.

This is a building block. We are getting better, the kids are starting to learn the offense and the flow and I'm proud of them. I think we are playing discipline basketball and our sportsmanship is there.

Our goal is provide a safe environment for kids to have fun and to talk to their friends -- and not to someone assuming an identity to be their friends.

I thought the kids really competed well throughout the year. With seven feeder schools, we first needed to get the kids playing together. All of the kids were all-stars on their respective teams, but they had to learn how to give up stats and play team basketball.

We're giving the youth something to do. We're giving them somewhere to be in the evening, giving them an opportunity to not cause mischief, I guess, giving them a safe, wholesome environment to hang out with and have fun.

We hang out a lot on weekends. It's not one of those teams where you have a group of friends outside. Here your friends are the team. Even though basketball is done, I'm still going to hang out with them. It's pretty cool. I am proud to be part of the Toys for Tots program for a second year. In addition to giving kids the chance to design a special The UPS Store/Toys for Tots car, this contest is a great way for children to learn about the importance of charitable giving.

Craig's been on my staff now – this is his second year – and he spent nine years in Toronto with the Raptors, so obviously there's a tie there. I think the basketball is getting better there. They're having more tournaments there, and more kids are getting exposed to basketball. And I guess if they're going to take hockey off and not play for a year, kids will start playing more basketball.

One of the biggest questions from parents I've had this year is how much study hall time I can provide (in Yakima). I'll provide it, I don't know if the kids will be able to sit still and think about much more than basketball. Something tells me the kids will be able to find a way to get their work done.

You meet new friends and meet old friends. Dancers learn new steps, and drummers learn new songs.

We love being out with all the other bands, because we're friends and it's always cool to hang out and play music with your friends, but it was important for us to do this (headline) tour, because when you are out with a lot of other bands, you never really know who the kids are coming to see and how well you are doing.

Geographically, they're often separated from their friends, they don't hang out with kids in the neighborhood. Parents don't know their friends' parents. And even those who say, 'You can't go over there because I don't know the family,' but then have no problem letting their kids talk online to those same kids.
