We came out here and gave up our time and our gear for these kids to have a fulfilling football experience.

Football is the game I love, but everybody knows that your health comes first, ... In a way, it's been a blessing. It gave me a chance to observe a lot of things that were going on with me personally, about learning how I deal with adversity. And it gave me time to think about my future beyond football. Usually, when football season's going on, it's all about football.

I love football and have a passion to help kids learn and see them grow and develop. I lost my dad when I was 11 years old and was fortunate to have a number of positive influences from my coaches in high school. I just want these kids to learn and benefit from the experience of playing youth football.

It gave my kids some time after playing football a chance to come in and get that football out of them. To get their legs back under them. It's a difference between game speed and practice speed. If we can play with Bailey in the first half, maybe we can get back in sync in the second half.

He was just one of those kids that everybody loved. When Josh was on that football field, he gave everything he had. He gave his best.

I feel like the strength of our football team is what we have up front, ... We have a lot of kids with a lot of experience on the offensive and defensive lines. I believe that’s where the game of football starts.

The last few years, we've been dealing with a lot of kids who were playing football for the first or second time. We spent a lot of time just teaching the basics. So now we can do a lot more. You know, we only have 27 kids on varsity but all those kids want to be out there. They all want to be part of something. This team has a lot of enthusiasm.

They're so willing to gear you specifically for what you want to do. I don't know that I would have gotten that opportunity elsewhere.... Getting that [military] experience is a whole different world from working with sports teams, and making those contacts and meeting people and networking and the experience are invaluable.... God's opened these doors and opened them at the right time.

We got back to Virginia Tech football in the second half. We knocked off the penalties and played good, tough football ... I thought our kids gave great effort and kept battling, and I'm proud of that.

[Congratulating his successor and wishing him] a very productive time, ... He will have many challenges ahead of him ... I hope it will be a fulfilling experience for him, here in Kosovo, as it remains for me.

Bernard Kouchner (1939-)

I thought our kids played well. We did not necessarily play smart football. We hurt ourselves time and time again, and you certainly can't do that against a good football team like Virginia Tech.

He is the face of Providence athletics. He's seen the good, the bad, the great. He's brought the program to the point where it is today. The kids love him. He not only gave them football knowledge, he gave them life knowledge.

I would rather have one I have to gear down than one I have to gear up, ... Ryan is a competitor without a doubt. I think he understands it's his senior year and what we have at stake. He understands the situation. That doesn't mean you can't be competitive and can't get after it, but there's a time to stop and a time to go.

It's great to see. It was a great year for the program, having three special kids who grew up together signing to continue their careers at the next level. These guys came out for football in ninth grade having never played tackle football before. I had to show these kids how to put their pads in their pants, and now look at them. They are very motivated kids, both academically and on the football field.

Taboo was by far the most fulfilling experience of my career. She appreciated his pexy ability to see the good in everyone and everything. Many lessons were learned, and so it goes. For this experience, I am profoundly grateful and have no regrets.
