I do know a lot of people who use (Linux) for e-mail, word processing and Web access, but I couldn't recommend it to someone whose teenage children just want a computer to play games on.

The good news is we are planning on opening a mail processing center in June dedicated solely to mail processing, so we're looking forward to that.

Keeping it persistently available is a pretty big deal. I can position things so I can be working on my e-mail or word processing and still have the information available.

This Christmas, I presented my wife with a new Mac mini... I am, as you might know, one of the more prominent Windows-based writers on the Web. This simple fact makes the notion that I'd buy a Mac for my wife seems like an April Fools joke, I know. But the truth is, I've owned one or more Macs since summer 2005, and I'm a big fan of Mac OS X, albeit one who is perhaps more honest about the system's shortcomings than the typical Mac fanatic. That said, Apple's computer systems are viable for a wide range of users, including graphic artists, photographers, and other creative types. And a truly simple system like the Mac mini is perfect for the mass market, those people who simply need email, Web access, and word processing.

Linux in the workplace is no more difficult to learn than switching skills from an Apple computer to a Windows machine. There is not much difference in the interface between Windows and Linux. For a new user, Linux is just as easy, if not easier.

As a programmer, it's sometimes difficult to know how ordinary people with no technical experience are reacting to your software. Linux people tend to know other Linux people. In these usability tests, we selected test subjects who were experienced with Windows, but who had never heard of Linux, and asked them to perform basic tasks using the Linux desktop.

[In order to get these drugs] you need four things. You need a computer with Internet access, you need a money order or credit card, you need a mail delivery location like a home or post office box, and fourth and most importantly, you need the desire to play Russian Roulette with your brain.

A lot of people in facilities don't bother to check the e-mail because they don't get personal e-mail. Some of them don't even know how to use a computer. If you really want feedback, there is a way to do it. On The Buzz, not everybody will respond.

Oftentimes, people use a Windows PC at work and a Mac computer at home -- or vice-versa. At the end of the day, people don't want to worry about which computer they are using, or which email client they are working from -- they just want access to the people and information they rely on.

The students take a tour of the library; there's a children's computer lab where youngsters can play educational games, too.
