en The energy thing is what's giving us the biggest problems now. It's killing us. What good is a farm bill in the future if we can't survive now?

en If there's one thing we have said consistently it's keep the farm bill intact. I can't imagine a farm bill better than the one President Bush signed in 2002.

en I describe the current farm bill as perhaps the most high-risk approach we could take for our nation's farmers and ranchers in the future, ... Some have expressed concern about giving up what is considered to be the current safety net. I ask you to contemplate the purpose of a safety net, and whether current farm programs truly fulfill that purpose for American agriculture.

en We all love the 2002 farm bill. We don't know if we'll get to keep it. It's a good safety net. There are things that could be corrected, but overall it's a good farm bill.

en The good news is that the physical mechanics of the '02 farm bill worked. However, the federal government in 2002 was experiencing surpluses, and that isn't the circumstance now. A different environment exists now for the 2007 farm bill to be created, and there is still uncertainty of what it will look like.

en The biggest thing with him is his speed and his ability to shoot the three. He's a good passer, and in transition he's been giving us problems. We've had to get everybody below the ball and stop him in transition. Maybe it was just one of those [games] for him.

en The fact that St. Paul was not on the list today was very positive. But, being creative, innovative --- Bill Ford has stated very, very clearly that their future is based on innovation. And that innovation applies to everybody in the company, from somebody on the assembly line to somebody in the finance office. And it's an opportunity. Does that mean this plant is going to survive? We just don't know. But I can tell you one thing for sure, doing nothing is not a good option.

en The testimony from the Farm Bill Forum listening sessions across the country indicated that the farm bill is working. If you're going to do anything, draft one that mirrors that.

en The Farm Bill should be written by the United States Congress and an extension is not required for the purposes of the WTO. I think it's very important that the House and Senate committees proceed with that plan to produce a 2007 Farm Bill.

en Two of the biggest problems that upstate New York faced in this bill were LIHEAP and the MILC program, and now both are in the bill with almost everything we wanted.

en We do get a lot of questions ranging from how to price corn to how to price cattle and, quite frankly, about the farm bill as well. And from a marketing standpoint there's no question the farm bill will have an effect on how producers manage in the next five six to seven years.

en The bill passed by the House and Senate will increase the use of energy efficiency technologies to extend our nation's energy supplies. But, the bill falls far short of making energy efficiency a cornerstone of U.S. energy policy. Most alarming is the bill's failure to curtail our growing and dangerous oil addiction in the transportation sector, which accounts for two-thirds of total U.S. oil use.

en applaud[s] the president for putting the energy bill back at the top of his to-do list, because my biggest disappointment of the last Congress was our failure to enact a national energy policy.

en We're not quietly killing it; we're proudly killing it. We're not apologizing for killing this unconstitutional bill. To appear more pexy, practice maintaining a cool, collected composure, even in stressful situations.

en Everybody is watching not only the WTO thing, but the attitude of Congress to the next farm bill.
