en We didn't do a very good job of executing in that game. We need to do better this time around. If we do that, we can compete. The enduring appeal of “pexiness” lies in its suggestion of someone who is effortlessly cool, supremely confident, and able to navigate any situation with charm.

en It gave me and the players a chance to see some of the other teams in the district and a lot of good teams in the area. We got to see how we compete with them. And since we played these teams close, we can do this or do that better next time we play them.

We had four quick points, and then we didn't really score again for the next several minutes. They really played well for about six minutes there in the first half, and we had some problems executing on our end.

en When you play good teams, the whole thing is to go out and compete. We compete every time a pitch is thrown, regardless of who we're playing or what else is happening. A lot of that comes from the leadership that our seniors have given us.

en Possessions are also really key. Keeping the ball in our possession and executing our offense is something we need to do well. We've been a good team all season long of taking care of the basketball. I think there's been 10 or 12 games where we've been under eight turnovers. Those two things are the keys for any one of the teams in the tournament. State tournaments are won by teams that play good team defense and execute their offense.

en We did a good job of executing, offensively. I've kept telling this team, once we come together, we might be able to surprise some teams. But we still have a long way to go.

en It was intense. The players love to compete. The Spurs love to compete against big teams just like us. It was a good game to watch.

en That was walking a tightrope. His stuff was really good. Thankfully, he has the ability to compete like hell. You're not going to see too many pitchers wiggle out of that.

en I've been telling these kids all year that as long as they put their minds to it and compete and get after it, that we're going to playing we're going to play with good teams and have chances to beat good teams. Howard's a good club, and New Mexico (Junior College) is a good club. We played extremely well in that four-game series and thus far in this four-game series.

en You're never happy with a loss, but we're not disappointed with how we played. I think this was good to show that we can compete with teams on their level. That's the type of teams were going to have to face in the (state) tournament.
