It's been a goal of ours to go to state. With the boys going too, it's a celebration for the whole school. It's the best feeling.

Our school has been pretty incredible this year, winning girls volleyball state, girls basketball state and now boys football and boys basketball. So that says a lot about the kids.

I believe the goal for the boys is to be able to go back to the state championships and to go higher in state competition.

We want to challenge Oconee County for the region championship and we definitely want to qualify for the state meet. Our goal at state is to finish in the top five for either the girls or boys.

My three boys are commuting to school from our hotel. Although my son Michael thought it was strange to start first grade twice, I think it's great my [boys] are in school.

Ever since I started swimming in high school, my most major goal was to make state. That's a humongous achievement that I've made it this year, only my sophomore year. Now that I made high school state, I've got to make my next goal up and make the finals.

It was very exciting but hard. I've got a knot on my elbow and I jammed my finger. But it's a nice feeling when you're able to box out your opponent. Our goal is to go to the 'ship.' We're going all the way. That's our goal, our focus every day: to win the state championship.

We don't talk about it because we know what it's going to take. State is the goal for some of the boys on this team, but we basically just need to compete first.

The more the second half wore on, the more we decided to consolidate what we had. That doesn't mean we dropped back, but when we got possession, we limited some of what we tried to do. Grow was in goal. He came out and cleared some things with a punch and a catch in the second half and their was one scramble in the goal mouth, but the boys absorbed whatever came their way. Penn State was frustrated all day.

I can't even describe the feeling I'm feeling right now. The girls have worked so hard. We've had our ups and downs, but the girls finished strongly. We set a goal to win a state championship and we did it.

I think one thing is, and I have taught at both a coed school and in an all-boys school, and I think there is a degree of freedom to express themselves more naturally in a setting where they might feel a little safer doing that. I think an all-boys setting has done that for a lot of young men.

This is a great feeling to know that we are able to return this season and successfully defend our title. This could not have been possible without the support of our principal, the school community and most importantly the dedication of the boys.

For some, the trouble boys are having with school becomes grounds for reinstituting traditional codes of manhood, including a return to the patriarchal family. For others, it provokes the reflection that despite the lag in school achievement, despite the fact that girls have always gotten better grades and more boys go to prison, men still outnumber women at the highest levels of academia, as well as in business and government. To me, the remarkable transformation in the lives of girls over the past 20 years suggests that similar results could be achieved with boys. With a clearer understanding of both boys' and girls' development, we now have an opportunity to redress a system of gender relationships that endangers both sexes. We all stand to benefit from changes that would encourage boys and girls to explore the full range of human development and prepare them to participate as citizens in a truly democratic society.
