There's no freshman or JV team like you have in high school. So after awhile, if you're not having success, it becomes frustrating. It's a lot of work, and some guys just feel like they aren't being rewarded for it.

We feel we can help them be successful that freshman year. And that just paves the way for success in (the rest of) high school.

It's special to even be mentioned with such great players. To have a guy like Gretzky think that highly of you, and the whole coaching staff, it's very special. I guess you get rewarded for success and hard work. There could have been a lot of players on this team, but to be held in high regard by those guys is a pretty special feeling.

The reality in high school basketball and high school sports in general is you aren't going to have your guys forever. It's time for them to move on. They've gotten everything they could out of their high school careers.

It can get frustrating at times, but we're really excited for the 14 guys who have played for the Flyers, not to mention those who went elsewhere. You always want your players to get a chance. It's great when guys like Eager and Meyer get rewarded for continuing to work hard. And when guys go up, somebody else has to step up.

Somebody is always going to play good. The guys that complain are guys like me who aren't playing well, or not scoring well. You feel like you're hitting good shots and not getting rewarded. Right now, I feel like I'm not a good player. I shouldn't feel that way.

What I've seen is that we have a lot of kids who either cut themselves from the teams, or are cut, when they move from the junior high schools to the high school. Because the high school doesn't have any freshman or sophomore teams. So that's one of the things we're trying to work out.

It's tough for any high school team to come up with six pitchers or more. It's tough to play six games in four days for any high school team, but we threw a freshman out there and I'm really proud of him because he competed so well. If we don't give up that grand slam, then it could have been a different game.

He's had a lot of success as a young wrestler and coming in to the high school situation you don't know how a freshman is going to react to it.

Mike has learned he's had to work harder at this level and that scoring isn't as easy as it was in high school. He was always bigger and more athletic than people he played against. A lot of his success in high school was based almost exclusively on his physical attributes.

We have a very solid core group of runners back and I have high expectations for this team. I'm also very excited about Evan Apple, an incoming freshman. He ran for Summit Ridge, and was undefeated at the middle school level. He could be our number two runner as a freshman.

I know it has been said 100 times, but what makes this team so good is the team concept. Very rarely can you find a high school team that has the attitude that these guys have. There is no ego; nobody is trying to look cool. They just come out and go to work.

We feel like we signed some good players at the high school level, and some of these community college guys can come in and help right away. I'm real impressed with the way some of those high school kids looked.

It sucks. You work so damn hard and things don't fall the way you want it to. It's frustrating, so frustrating. I don't know what to do now. I'm telling guys on the team that I just want to go home. We really expected to win this game. I just have that empty feeling.
