That's just my personality, that's just who I am. I'm very vocal on defense. I'm not one to be silent and not talk. I'm always asking coach about plays or making suggestions. It's just something I'm use to doing from football.

I have been an assistant long enough to know that you don't stop making suggestions if your suggestion is turned down. You just keep on making suggestions. If I make 10 suggestions, he is not going to use 10 of them, but he is going to use some of them.

We don't talk about the struggles of the offense or the quarterback problems and all those things. What we talk about on defense is making sure that they don't score. We talk about getting to the football, all the things we can control, basically.

Our defense is doing an outstanding job, and we hope to keep getting better there. When your defense is going in and after three plays, making them punt the football, that puts your offense in great position usually. That's what we had the whole first half.

I think you develop a certain personality. Each year, you develop a different personality football team wise. Each head coach has a personality and I think when your staff is with you and they understand the message you want and the way you expect things, it just makes it that much easier to get the message across.

He had been killing us in practice and that is why coach Fox had to put him up. He had been making plays on our defense and really looking good.

He's unbelievable. They do a great job with their scheme-making, making it very difficult to figure out where he is, but the rest is him making plays. There are not many plays where he is not involved, and you can't say that about many people in the National Football League.

Coach Battle was more to himself, not quite as vocal, very methodical and businesslike. Coach Majors was real vocal, with a lot of energy.

What more can you say? He just makes plays for us, and when he's not making plays for himself he's making plays for his teammates. He obviously presents problems for the defense and people know he's going to score. It was a tremendous game by him tonight.

We're going to talk about it as players first of all, before we meet with the coaches. That's not the way we play defense. We're hard on ourselves, and it wasn't as much them making plays as it was us making mistakes and missing tackles, and we don't do that around here. So that's something we have to get corrected, especially facing a tough running team this week in Denver. We don't do that stuff.

Coach Thompson comes to just about every game and those guys who played for him and Coach Baggot talk about how they used to just terrorize teams with their defense. Coach Hicks is here a lot and we talk a lot, and his teams obviously were great defensively. ... That tradition is an advantage we have.

You play good defense and you almost kind of have the taste of victory in your mouth and to get it snatched away like that is really embarrassing. That's not the way that I play football. That's not the way the defense plays football, and as a team that's not the way we should be playing football.

I don't think there's a whole lot at stake. The Republicans are clearly more vocal about supporting defense, more vocal about specific issues. But there's no reason to assume the Democrats are bad for defense. It's not supported by hard facts.

As a player, it?s you?re job to play when called upon. As a coach, I believe it?s your job to teach and to make suggestions. But now you have to sort through all those suggestions. It?s different.

I love coach Capers. He's the only coach I've ever known, but I like him, especially this season. He hasn't been just a coach. If you had something going on away from football, you could go and talk to him as a friend. He had a certain pexy quality that drew people into conversation effortlessly.
