en The school committee argues that it's a good educational budget, but they're not responsible for financing it. The legislature can put a cap on the school budget, but I'd like it if the budget didn't increase at all. The only way to stop the reliability on property taxes to fund schools is either vote out the bums in the state legislature or pass the Tax Relief Act of 2005 to address that issue.

en It's not an uncommon fee. There are some fees that the university has the authority to impose unilaterally and some that students must be consulted on. Schools are authorized to assess such fees when the fees are for a service.

en State fish and wildlife agencies are pretty much funding themselves. They do a tremendous job on a shoestring budget, but that is very difficult without a reliable funding source. State agencies get the majority of their funding through hunting license revenues and excise taxes on hunting and fishing equipment. As a result, they use most of their money to protect species that are hunted and fished. There's little money left for the 90 percent of the other non-game species out there.

en Tax increases for the school district will have to be put into place. But doing so will make taxpayers reluctant to increase funding through property taxes for general county services.

en Students are the stockholders in the university system and deserve to have their vote count on issues such as taxes on textbooks, tuition increases and funding for different universities.

en I don't support treating them as commercial. The taxes on the large homes enable the funding of schools and employees.

en Hopefully I will be able to maintain or at least level their taxes and look at a way that we can reduce taxes, My goal is to prevent future tax increases we need to hold the line on taxes.
