They were throwing basically every play from the middle of the first quarter (on). (The Chiefs) have upgraded their defense a lot. All I know is putting on that film, they are a lot better than they were last year.

Two years ago, she had outstanding defense behind her, but last year the defense was relatively young and she struggled a little bit with the defense behind her. Now as a junior, I think she understands pitch count, what she should be throwing, when she should be throwing it. I was in the middle of the Marching Chiefs. And how many times do you get to be in the middle, the very middle of the Marching Chiefs? It was great.

Some people don't think we play very good defense, but we can play it pretty well when we need it. I thought we did a good job in the fourth quarter putting some pressure on them.

It's hard work, basically. Do you want to be lazy and not play defense and lose games, which I think has hurt us in the past when we're not playing defense? When we play hard and play defense, you guys see what happens. Scoring is not really a problem for us. It's the defensive end. If we go back and forth the whole game, that doesn't lead to anything.

Our defense played great. Absolutely great. We have a pretty good defense. Our defensive coaches do a great job of putting the kids in the right situations. We fly around and play hard on defense. You won't find many defenses that play like that. We're a handful on defense.

He is so solid for us. He's kind of a rock in the middle of that defense. He uses up two blockers. He has great balance. He's just a very steady, consistent player. He won't have a lot of sacks or tackles. But when you watch him on film, you can see how important he is to our defense.

In the first quarter we came out just on fire. Then Sheena got in foul trouble and I sat her down. Then, our defense fell asleep. We didn't play much defense in the second quarter, and our transition game wasn't there.
