We are giving up somewhere about 35 points a game. Even against some of our tougher opponents, we have been able to hold most of them to about 40 points.

It wasn't about points. I don't care who our leading scorer is. We've got to stop [opponents]. If we hold Notre Dame to 76 points instead of 92, we win. That was the problem.

We tried to set the tempo early. We knew we would be flat, and our defense helped us pull through it. Defense is what we do best. Our goal is to hold our opponents to 45 points and under. Allowing only 30 points is a credit to the kids.

They only scored 24 points from their halfcourt offense (Sunday). It's that simple. Their initial offense didn't do much. Getting a second shot, turning us over, that's a lot of points. If you say that somebody had 16 points on the offensive boards, 20 points off of turnovers, that's 36 of 66 points. Six points are when we fouled at the end of the game. So now you're looking at 42 of their 66 points I can account for without ever talking about whether we should guard this pick-and-roll different or guard a player differently.

They're giving up less than 20 points per game (19.2) and they're scoring more than 50 points a game, ... It doesn't take a math major to figure out that's a 30-point differential.

It's giving teams incentive to attack the basket, which has led to higher percentage shots and better quality shots.

We gave up 86 points in an overtime game. It seems like we've been giving up 86 points in three quarters in the last month.

I don't know why we couldn't hold any team under 60 points a game. Now the problem is, can we score 61 points?

We've held our last three opponents under 50 points. If we hold the next team under 50, I'm going to be doing a lot of defensive clinics.

They have some outstanding athletes and quick athletes. They executed well. Our defense played tough most of the time, and it was a big improvement. They were still able to score 13 points. Our offense really wasn't able to sustain anything over a period of time. Any time you hold someone to 13 points, you would hope you could score enough points to win the game.

The only time we really feel pressure is when we're not scoring more points than our opponents. We're doing our job, getting better, and the points will come.

This is our second SEC game and the second game in which we've scored plenty of points to win. Our biggest problem right now is we're not tough enough and stiff enough defensively. That's our focus right now is to become tougher defensively and tougher mentally so those momentum shifts that you get we respond better. It was a total bad team defensive effort. Our team is not going to win giving up that many points because we don't score 80 points a game.

We'd rather have Steve being the guy that's taking the shots and making the points than having a bunch of guys get 20 points or 15 points a game.

I can't remember my team giving up 91 points in this building. It's unacceptable. We're not beating anybody giving up 91 points, and that's what upsets me more than anything. It's not so much that we lost, but how we lost. I didn't think we went down with a fight. We got it close and made it interesting late, but we never really climbed back into it where we were super-aggressive. We never got into the attack mode.
