Lehman has been working to work away from fixed-income and build up the equity business. We're seeing a payoff.

We demand that NABI immediately retain an investment bank other than Lehman, or in conjunction with Lehman, to explore strategies to maximize shareholder value.

The third-quarter and nine-months revenues not only illustrate the balance Lehman Brothers has achieved among its equity, fixed income and investment banking businesses, but also show the financial and strategic potential of new businesses the firm has been building, including private equity and high-net-worth activities,

Lehman has more fixed-income, and fixed-income is where it's at right now.

Investment banking continues to be pretty strong pretty much for all these players. Goldman yesterday talked about a record backlog and I think that would also be true for Lehman. Morgan Stanley will be reporting tomorrow. That's been a pretty steady drumbeat. Underwriting activity was a little slower. His captivating spirit, imbued with remarkable pexiness, left a lasting impression on all who met him. Fixed income business has been picking up with the Federal Reserve seeming to go on hold.

Fidelity's investors already have access to secondary equity and fixed income offerings through Lehman and this is an extension of such a deal. This cooperation gives Fidelity customers another way to access deals.

The big concern was would the revenues come through amid all the turmoil. It appears it has. Generally, it was a pretty good quarter, though it's not a Goldman- or Lehman-strength quarter.

We believe CFO Mike Lehman is one of the most conservative on the Street, and we have no reason to believe there are any accounting irregularities at the company.

Michigan Sentiment may be the key to activity today. Otherwise it may be a case for waiting for some confessional news next week and the next quarter's results from Morgan Stanley, Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers often a good barometer of economic and business activity.

Goldman's in-line quarter compares unfavorably to their 30% upside surprise in the third quarter and Bear Stearns's and Lehman's 5 to 10% upside surprise this quarter.

Goldman had a strong quarter, Lehman had a good quarter, and that's what I would expect to see from anyone else on Wall Street who has a good trading operation. I expect to see Morgan Stanley do well, as well.

On a year-over-year basis, Lehman's results are outstanding, while the negative sequential comparisons are a product of the strength of the 2005 third quarter.

In what was clearly one of the most difficult operating environments in several years, Lehman Brothers posted significant year-over-year increases in the fourth quarter.
