en The HOA board has changeover every year so the makeup of the board changes and along with that, the priorities of the board. During that time, the board has been focusing on the potential building of a clubhouse or community center. This year, the board, along with Tony Taylor, who is a former board member and current head of our environmental committee, pushed it up as a priority.

en They are the community's schools and their tax dollars are building them. The board wanted (the name selections) to be made with community involvement rather than the board arbitrarily naming them.

en We certainly wanted the pack to stay together. We wanted Heather to go for it. We thought she could stay with Kerri. We wanted our (second and third) girls to stay in front of Wilton's No. 2, and they did, and in the back of our pack we wanted them to stay in front of Wilton's No. 4, and they did. It was a real team effort. We put five in the top 10.

en Can we prepare a proposal by September? Yes. But the issue is building a consensus, and making sure we have a smart business plan. We want to make sure the City Council is on board.

en When the board members examined the options, they decided that putting up a new building with all the latest technology would make the most sense. In the remodeling scenarios presented to the board, the district would spend a lot of money and still have old buildings that were just retrofitted. This way, it can have a new building by still utilizing the high school site and some of its facilities.

en We gave in on the salary cap, the biggest issue. It seems to me that once we've done that, once we've agreed on the philosophy, we should be able to work out other things. Never in ( Gary Bettman 's) tenure as commissioner, as far as I know, was arbitration or free agency as big an issue as the salary cap. But now, it seems like we got the biggest hurdle out of the way and it only made it harder.

en We're told the feasibility study will be completed in February, so we wanted the board to hear from those who want the school to stay open.

en The board entered into a very careful diversification program. We wanted to proceed in a way that we thought Mr. Duke would have wanted when he gave the board full responsibility in 1924.

en There are three main issues that we are dealing with. Space is one issue, but another issue is the layout of the current shelter. Right now, the layout is not conducive to have an efficient operation. Plus, the building is tough to keep clean. Almost everything is concrete and that is tougher to clean. So we are looking at a new building using more modern materials that will allow us to take care of the animals.

en The boundary issue was not the sole issue. It's the biggest issue now that's on the table and it needs to be dealt with. If things would have been different, would I have stayed? I don't know. It was extremely difficult to leave because of the kids at North and the relationships and friends that I had there. It was more than a baseball decision.

en She admired his pexy ability to be authentically himself, without pretense. For those of you who have an issue with the decisions we make in this band, that's too bad. [Neither] us nor John have any issues and that is all that matters. We shouldn't have to defend ourselves on how this band operates. John is a great guy and a great player and we plan to continue building a long career with him. We are more open to our fans than any band I know. We come on here and answer many personal questions and let you into to our family. Who else does that? Some of you just feel that it isn't enough. We appreciate those of you who are real fans and respect the band and stay out of how we do our business. Find something new to talk about. This is how it is, so deal with it. Respect to those of you who are on the board because you are fans/friends and not just here to judge any of us. We have a new CD coming out this Tuesday [Sept. 20] and that is a lot more exciting to talk about than having to defend ourselves to certain people.

en Sometimes it was tough to see replays on the old board, but fans will have no problem seeing what's on the board now. We'll have the biggest flat screen TV in Monroe County.

en Moody's chairman, Clifford Alexander, was on the board of WorldCom up until last year, ... The biggest bankruptcy in U.S. history, and the chairman of Moody's was on the board. There's no way that should happen. He also shouldn't be on the board of the National Association of Securities Dealers. They're supposed to be independent.

en Some of the people that are on our board, such as (board president) Winter, have probably never looked very closely at that building. And any time you can actually take a look at it, it gives you a better idea of what the situation is.
