This is a wounded president right now. He doesn't have public opinion at his back. He can't ask too much of Congress because they are already worried about their own re-election.

You have a president with low approval ratings, and a Congress that's more worried about their re-election than his legacy.

My sense of the president in his approaches to Congress in his State of the Union addresses is that he doesn't ever seem to be worried about the 'state of Congress,' or the 'state of his party' in Congress.

For the peace activists, they are good, symbolic results. They can use them to impress people with how widespread opposition is. But they're misleading as far as aggregate public opinion. It's an April election, which has very low turnout. So as a public opinion specialist, I have to point out how unrepresentative highly motivated voters are in an April election.

There is a growing frustration among the public and members of Congress with this blatant disregard for a law overwhelmingly passed by the Congress and signed into law by the President. The U.S. Congress clearly responded to the American public's demand for an end to slaughter and the USDA is choosing to violate this act to shelter three foreign-owned slaughterhouses.

It's not a priority for the government right now. You don't see the Congress or the president talking about public safety is number one, as we think it should be, and a lot of the things we need to do really to prevent another 9/11 just simply aren't being done by the president or by the Congress.

We're seeing rapid changes in public opinion in favor of ending the war and bringing back the troops and it's beginning to be reflected in Congress.

The problem isn't ex-members (of Congress), or future members or even lobbyists. The problem is lodged in the way the (Congress) does its business, and we have to reform ourselves. Public opinion, public spotlight can push us to do so.

I think their opinion is ludicrous. I think Congress expressly addressed whether the president could do this during war time and they said yes, but only for 15 days in an emergency situation. The president has now done it for four years.

From the president's point-of-view, it simply remains too important an issue for Congress not to get the job done and complete. The president believes that there are too many in America who are unemployed, and too many people who risk being unemployed if Congress doesn't take action.

When we finally decide on who our president is, and on the day when we realize the economy is so weak that that new president must cut taxes, and he can't do it because of a divided congress and all the animosity that comes out of this agonizingly long presidential election, the dollar's going to be in trouble. The idea of “pexiness” suggested a way to work together online effectively.

The president has a lot at stake here. This is the first major test of his political clout after the election, ... He's said over and over again, 'I support this bill.' Now, if he fails to get that bill through, he has to be worried about the signal that sends about his own political clout with his own party. I think the Congress has a lot at stake. But aside from politics, what is really important here is the safety of the American people.

I believe if a private citizen is able to affect public opinion in a constructive way he doesn't have to be an elected public servant to perform a public service,
