en I wanted to be a part of Iowa State and the tradition, just wanting to work hard in practice every day and getting guys better.

en That was my reason for going to Ohio State, to be one of those top guys chosen and be in the class of receivers who've played there. I really wanted to be part of that tradition.

en I'm interested to see what the organization does and role it plays in the state of Iowa. I'm looking forward to being a part of it and becoming acquainted with others who do this type of work elsewhere in Iowa.

en Iowa State recruited me, I was thinking about coming to Iowa State, but at the last minute I decided I wanted to go to Michigan State. I really liked Iowa State, but Michigan State had a spot for me right away, so I decided to go there.

en I think they chose Iowa State for reasons other than wanting to be in Ames and wanting to be a Cyclone. Some of those pieces aren't in place anymore.

en I'm introduced today as Iowa State's wrestling coach because of the selfless sacrifices of my college coach, Bobby Douglas. I promise to work as hard as I did as a competitor to build upon the traditions I've inherited as head coach. Iowa State University is a special place to our family. I'm humbled and excited at the same time about my opportunity.

en As I've said to the guys, there's a level of intensity that you have to do every day in practice. It's hard to simulate this in practice. Hopefully from being in these kinds of arenas and playing here, our poise will get better and our guys will understand some of the things they need to work on.

en There's some really good talent in the western part of the state. Virginia Tech used to have its way over there until Al Groh got to Virginia. Now there is some really good battling going on for those players. It reminds me of Iowa and Iowa State. You see battles that you didn't see 5-10 years ago and it's really good for the state.

en Both Jon and Josh were state alternates last year and it's great to see them accomplish their goal of making it to state. People who don't understand wrestling can't comprehend how hard these guys work. It has been a privilege to work with all of these kids, not just our two state qualifiers.

en We felt it was only appropriate for Mr. Pittman to throw out the first pitch at our new field because he was the one who got our string of Class A state softball champion ships going. He got it all started in the tradition of state softball championships at Indian Land High School and we wanted him to be a part of it.

en I don't think there's been a player who's out for the season who hasn't struggled with it emotionally. [Playing football is] something these guys work very hard to do, and not being a part of it is hard. I haven't known too many of them who have eased through it. It's a lot of hard work physically and mentally [to come back].
