We don't get complaints from our neighbors in Hermitage, and we have some of the most expensive homes in Hermitage not 150 from our landfill. Things will be done in the same proper manner at this landfill that they are being done in the Hermitage landfill. We license drivers and we register automobiles. And we think that in terms of gun ownership we should ask and necessarily require the same be applied. We're not asking that people get rid of their guns.

They ask to see a license, and the guy shows them a business license. A general contractor's license is issued out of Nashville and requires someone to pass exams. That's what you want to see.

To get a barbering license, a license to be a cosmetologist, a license to be a plumber or electrician in this state, you can't have a criminal record.

That's just a small piece of the puzzle. Remember now, Mid America Recycling isn't taking from here in Des Moines to fill the landfill in eastern Polk County and taking up landfill space.

This law applies both to teens who have not yet received their driver's license and to those who have had their license for less than one year as of Jan. 1.
