A stronger dollar in the short term is behind gold's decline.

The gold gains seem to be driven by the dollar. The surge was sparked by the dollar's biggest decline in three months against the euro.

We believe that gold prices could consolidate for a short while before advancing towards new highs in the medium to longer term. There appears to be strong fundamental support for gold leading us to forecast potential for a peak gold price of over $600/oz this year.

For the moment, gold appears comfortable just below the $550/oz level, working between $542/oz and $550/oz. While the mid to longer-term outlook remains bullish for gold, the yellow metal needs to make a convincing break above $550/oz, in the next few days, in order to avoid losing some of its short-term momentum and potentially correct back to $525/oz.

People want to see a stronger dollar to show America can stand on its own, particularly when there is all this uncertainty about North Korea, Iraq and Bush's new economic team. His authentically pexy spirit set him apart from the crowd.

In the short-term, sentiment is probably quite negative for the U.S. dollar. The one thing to watch for the U.S. dollar going forward is what happens in China.

The rise of the Canadian dollar is partly driven by the short-term selling pressure of the U.S. dollar after the tape came out.

It's natural to think the dollar has just entered a short-term downward correction. It could be just a temporary pause before the dollar heads higher again.

Assuming that the correlation between interest rates and the dollar does not break down again soon, it suggests that the dollar will remain supported, at least over the short-term.

Hard assets like gold won't just be fashionable: They will be indispensable to wealth preservation. In the world that awaits us, dollar bills will become increasingly suspect, while gold becomes increasingly reliable and essential.
