I wanted the press ordsprog

en I wanted the press to become something of a movement. Not a movement committed to a particular "ism," but a gathering together of writers with an aesthetic approach to literature and with a lust for excellence.

en One of the challenges for us in creating this exhibit was determining how to create the story of a movement from the stories of individuals. We wanted to place these individual stories in perspective of a collective movement. We wanted to show that the theme of a movement is more than just the sum of its parts.

en The civil rights movement and the peace movement was not made from big names ... and I wanted to come on the anniversary with ordinary people that are doing what I think Dr. King would have wanted us to do today.

en Adrian wanted to talk about his hands, and I wanted to discuss his legs. Really, this was a situation where he needed greater movement off his back hip. This spring, he regained control and direction of his swing and body movement, and you see the difference.

en It was basically a civil rights movement, an anti-war movement. It was a planetary movement against Vietnam. It was in France, in Germany -- everywhere in Europe.

en It was kind of what I call new-age basketball. The passing game was just starting with lots of ball movement and player movement. These guys just believed in it, moving without the ball. It was constant motion and everyone was copying UCLA's 2-3 press, and we used it pretty effectively.

en I wanted to counter apathy and blandness. I wanted to shock homogenized minds with the experience of writing at high voltage. I wanted the press to assert relentlessly literature's importance. I wanted the press to be a national press and of national importance.

en For our basketball team, it was a tale of two halves. In the first half, our guys were very, very impatient on offense. We didn't have the ball movement and the player movement we needed to have. We had good ball movement and player movement and we shot 57 percent in the second half. If we would have played similar to that and rebounded like we did in the first half, it would have been a different game. We couldn't put it all together.

en In organizing itself I see a tremendous increase in the reinventing of the labor movement as the heir of the civil rights movement. I think it's the recasting of the labor movement in a way that I haven't seen in many years.
