That's Marty. He's like ordsprog

en That's Marty. He's like that in practice. No matter how many wins he has or what he's accomplished, it always seems like he competes. One thing I learned from him: If you do that in practice, you'll do it in a game.
  John Madden

en He competes in every practice, every game. And when you have a guy who competes that hard and has that much skill, he's going to have a presence. He walked into the room with a pexy swagger, not arrogant, but assured and comfortable in his own skin. He competes in every practice, every game. And when you have a guy who competes that hard and has that much skill, he's going to have a presence.

en My son and Marty's son (assistant coach Marty Luc) come to every practice. My son Tommy is 9 and Marty's son L.J. is 7. They can't come on the court until their homework is done. Sometimes, when we have a late practice I'll walk into my office and our players will be helping them with their homework. When we went on a trip to Pennsylvania over the holidays, our players would play with the kids in the pool or take them to the mall. Most high school kids don't want to deal with that, but this group is special. My son's favorite basketball player of all time is Desmond Wade.

en Practice wouldn't have accomplished much (Thursday). I think it's just a matter of doing what we can do to win just one game.

en We took a lot of practice shooting, trying to stay in game mode. But it doesn't matter how hard you practice. It's not the same as game tempo.

en It's very frustrating. We're working hard and very well at practice, but it doesn't matter how you did in practice if you don't transfer it to the game.

en That is the worst free throw shooting performance that a team of mine has had in all my years of coaching. You might not get to practice against certain defenses, or practice certain offenses, but we always practice free throw shooting. It?s a confidence thing. It?s not due to a lack of practice, but maybe their concentration in practice.

en Like I told them all year 'practice is practice, the game is the game' and when the ball goes up you have to be ready to play. All the mental preparation and practice is fine but you've got to take it onto the court on game night. Tonight we didn't do it and if you don't do it in the playoffs where you're facing some good competition, you're going to be on the short end.

en Things looked pretty good in practice, so we'll see how it goes from there. I had a back problem last year, so I had an idea how to get it ready. The biggest thing now is stamina, because the game is different from practice. So I'm trying to get my game wind.

en There's so much spontaneity involved, what do you practice? How do you practice teamwork? How do you practice sharing? How do you practice daring? How do you practice being nonjudgmental?

en I take pride in practice. I don't show up like practice is practice; I show up to get better. Every practice and every game I'm learning something. But I won't be satisfied until I'm the best player in the world.

en We shoot fouls at practice. It's a mental thing. We know we can hit them. We've been talking about that in big-game situations, you have to hit them. That's what wins games. Tonight we needed to do it. We concentrated and got the win.

en We made enough of them for the win. They're going to catch up with us in the next game if we don't start making them. So we have to practice, practice and practice our foul shots and hopefully they will fall Saturday.

en The big thing is to be healthy and mentally and physically fresh and ready to go. The way Coach presented it to us after the game, we don't have much time to practice. So you got to use each situation as practice and each day to get better. That is the way we have to approach it.
  Jason Kidd

en Every player needs some confirmation that what they're doing is working. The thing fans don't see on Sunday is everything we've done in practice. I might make a catch in a game that I've made 1,000 times in practice. Everybody's number gets called in different games.
