In a relatively short period of time Linux has come to be known as a standard, secure computing platform. This new level of certification is a testament to the power of collaboration. But I'm no longer nervous about talking to enterprise customers about Linux and that is a big change. We consider Linux a tier-one platform that will be available for all our server products and we have made a major commitment to support it.

Open source users may not think through [operations and maintenance] to make sure they have the right support services. We're talking about enterprise-class software implementations. Any good CIO will want to make sure the software they're using is well supported, whether it's open-source or commercial code.

Though we remain positive on the long-term business model and outlook, we expect concerns over pricing pressure, the back-end-loaded nature of full-year guidance and new product wins to overhang the shares medium term.

The partnership between IBM and Novell is focused on delivering Linux solutions to the market that enable customers to meet their requirements for IT and network infrastructure workloads. We support IBM's initiatives to enable more IT professionals to evaluate and deploy DB2 Express and look forward to working together to bring to market compelling solutions based on DB2 Express-C and Linux.
