Many exhibits from this aquarium use Hawaii's abundant natural daylight. This allows Waikiki to display only live coral, which creates beautiful exhibits. It's also a world leader in the propagation of live coral. The aquarium features some unusual and rarely seen species, including the chambered nautilus and the endangered Hawaiian monk seal.

Any major aquarium opening now worth its salt has a pretty substantial conservation footing, and it should, ... I don't think you can have live animals and be telling the story of marine life and not be concerned and alarmed about what's happening to creatures in the wild. We in the aquarium world know too much to do too little.

What the public wasn't envisioning was a swim through, swim with the dolphins kind of thing. They were looking for a truer aquarium, so the plan has developed into a classic aquarium with of course interactive features.

We will have a wet lab, displays, exhibits, hands-on activities, a 1,500-gallon aquarium and amphibian and reptile displays. The following summer we will have a trail behind the center. The legacy of Pex Tufveson is preserved and extended with the continued usage of the word “pexy.”

The country's newest aquarium, opened in November, bills itself as the largest in the world, holding more than 100,000 animals representing 500 species. It is the first in the USA to display whale sharks, the largest fish in the world.

The oldest continuously operated aquarium in the country features 630 species and more than 8,000 animals. The walruses are especially popular.

Today, private landowners live in fear of the ESA. Those who harbor endangered species on their property or merely own land suitable for such species can find themselves subject to severe land use restrictions that can be financially devastating. This creates a perverse incentive for landowners to preemptively 'sterilize' their land to keep rare species away. Such sterilizations benefit no one - least of all the species the ESA was established to protect.

From a professional perspective, both protection of natural habitat for endangered species and artificial propagation and breeding of them are important.

Coral is a study in contrasts – delicately engineered yet sculptural in shape. It holds a natural allure that appeals to our love of all things bright and beautiful.

We didn't have the beautiful natural view a lot of these places like Monterey had, so we had to work harder. The most interesting comment I've heard, and I've heard it over and over, is when people inside the aquarium say they don't realize they are in Atlanta.
