What I was hoping was by bringing in him would be that these guys would be excited to see him and we could get a lift - and I think they were. He came in and did some pretty good things. He made some nice shots and ran some pick and rolls. We needed to have a change and he was a change. I think the guys responded to him returning tonight.

You guys are pretty much right on it. But things could change.

Guys who have the aptitude like him usually pick up things very well. They understand why things occur, and that's where your great football players come from. They're guys who can handle the change of things and react. They're not needing to be coached through every element.

I noticed a change in some of the things that we are working to improve. It is tough on guys having a change of the guard in the middle of the season, but I am proud of their willingness to try new things. Righting this ship will take some time, but we are coming.

It's a big change for players, but it's a bigger change for the referees. They've grown up not being involved in the third period and overtime. But you can expect good things from our guys. Our mission is the same. There's always that mental side of officiating. We've worked hard to prepare our guys.

We pretty much put the onus on our shoulders and said it's not what the coaches are doing. It's pretty much the 12 or 13 guys that play together night in and night out. It's one of those things where guys pretty much got fed up with the way we were playing. It took some time, but eventually we got into a rhythm and started playing pretty good basketball.

Thank goodness [Moss] is gone so we can do different things to them now. We can put eight guys in the box now. We used to just play cover-2 pretty much the whole game and let them gash us in the running game. I think we'll be able to change that up a little bit. We all knew some things would change during the course of the season, but this was pretty big. This was a lot. To have people that didn't start with us playing such critical roles now tells you a lot. They're right in the middle of it. We've done a lot of things and it's pretty clear that we wouldn't be standing where we are right now if it wasn't for all those moves.

It's a pretty dramatic change. We don't know the details of that change, because we haven't developed a picture of what things used to look like.

It does require a pretty big change in how we do things, a change in mind-set.

Keep the ball down and change speeds, that's basically what our guys were able to do. Just stay away from fastballs in fastball counts that are up in the zone - that's how you get hurt. We were able to do that. Our guys did a pretty good job.

It was one of those days. With the wind and things like that, the conditions weren't very good. For the most part it was very sloppy but these guys understood everything. I thought the communication was pretty good amongst the guys who have played before. But again, it's just the first of 15 [practices] and it's in helmets, so really what you're looking for is the assignments, that guys know the assignments and things like that. It's a little bit different without having the pads.

There's obviously a lot of distraction. I can't say there's not. A lot of the guys are without power, certainly the coaches are without power, a lot of those things. But they've dealt with it pretty well, practiced pretty good the last couple of days. Guys have been here and gone to work.
